But with many trying to renew their passports, a crush of passport applications have overwhelmed the State Department’s 26 passport agencies across the country, creating a backlog of applications. Make sure you are prepared by renewing your passport ahead of schedule.

Are you ready to make the change?

Starting May 7, 2025, the federal government will be requiring a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced driver's license, or another form of ID to board a domestic flight, when the REAL ID Act will be enforced by the Department of Homeland Security and TSA.

REAL ID-compliant cards will have one of the following stars on the upper right portion of your driver’s license:

Michigan, Vermont, Minnesota, and New York states issue REAL ID and state-issued enhanced driver’s licenses, both of which are acceptable. Washington state issues enhanced driver’s licenses only. State-issued enhanced driver's licenses are marked with a flag. These documents will be accepted at the airport security checkpoint when the REAL ID enforcement goes into effect.
